Another great reason to choose Sandton Accommodation

Johannesburg is one of the world’s destinations which finds itself a fair distance from most international hubs. One could safely say that connecting to a destination in Johannesburg can be a lengthy and tiresome ordeal involving the usual flying, baggage collection, and customs. Only  then to immerse one’s self in the dreadful traffic in an overly priced taxi or airport shuttle notoriously synonymous with big cities, to which Johannesburg is no exception, journeys from the airport to Sandton can take up to two hours at times.

From the 8th of June, 2010 the experience of getting from your flight, to your final destination, can (and will if you so choose) become a much easier and quicker one. You will now able to connect to Sandton via a high speed rail service - The Gautrain - directly from the terminal building at OR Tambo international in a matter of 15 minutes. Gone are the days of pricey taxis and shuttles from the airport – tickets are a mere R100 for a single journey to Sandton.

The Gautrain will advance Gauteng into a select group of international destinations which have rapid rail links to their international airports. Getting to Sandton will now be a fast and convenient experience involving a train ride of 15 minutes at speeds up to 160km/h. Travellers arriving at OR Tambo Airport will no longer have to endure traffic-heavy journeys to Sandton central which at times take up to 2 hours. With Gautrain, gone are those days indeed.

Enjoy true convenience with frequent services. During peak times there will be a train departing from both stations every 12 minutes and during off peak times, every 30 minutes. The service will operate between 05h30 and 20h30 daily, and with most international connections arriving at Johannesburg in the morning

Once the train is in full operation, getting to other destinations such as Pretoria and Johannesburg stations will involve changing trains at Sandton station. The station has been designed with convenience and ease of use in mind; changing trains with luggage does not involve any long walks or crossing through ticket gates. Passengers will simply cross between platforms.

Complementing the stations, an extensive network of transport services will connect passengers to Sandton’s neighbouring areas. Alternatively, ample areas for drop-offs and taxis will make the station experience easy and painless to get other transport connections.

With many a traveller keeping an eye on expenses, the arrival of this train combined with a growing number of accommodation establishments competing with large expensive and anonymous hotels, makes Johannesburg a more affordable and attractive as a destination for the younger market.

So why choose Sandton accommodation? Well, with Gautrain in operation an attractive choice of lodges B&B’s and guest houses suddenly become ever so closer to the airport. The distance from your plane seat to your bed is now cheaper and faster.
